Don’t Delay – Send the Hammer to the Slammer

Anyone really surprised by this? I mean, Texas is Rove country. Continue reading →

Ohio Grassroots Movement to Stop Corruption

I expect to see more movements like this in the future as more and more Americans wake up to the realization that the government serves corporate America and NOT the people. This might be wishful thinking, but I have to fight my naturally pessimistic impulses at least some of the time ;-) Continue reading →

With Record Profits, Credit Card Companies “Need” Government Protection?

Get this quote:

“Many people are forced into bankruptcy by health costs. That’s true, but that’s because Congress has done nothing on health care,” Campbell told a northwest Arkansas audience recently. “It’s not a bankruptcy problem. It’s a health care problem. It’s not the local banker’s job to pay for health care” when people default on loans because of health care costs.

This is the sort of specious reasoning that has left the middle class to fend for itself.

Legislators claim the new bankruptcy law will make it harder for “rich” people to avoid paying their debt. But read this to see what others are seeing.

One of the biggest problems is…

Victims of the hurricane will find their legal obligations onerous. Since people do tend to file bankrupty after they lose their home, jobs, and the like (duh), they will find it difficult to be granted an exception. The courts require paper documentation of the filer’s financial status – much of which may be lost in homes flooded for weeks.

Even a Louisiana Senator who has witnessed the devastation in person has is being exceedingly conservative with the doling out of compassion.

Out of Sight – Out of Mind – Dumping of the Homeless

Not as shocking as it should be in today’s America that other counties and cities have been allegedly dropping off their homeless in Downtown LA – let them deal with it.

Maybe LA should hire some buses and drive them to the White House and drop them off there – might have to rethink the memes regarding our “booming economy”.

As states, counties, and cities struggle with slashed budgets, what better way to save money on those pesky homeless people – drop them off in another town! The fact that law enforcement appears to be participating in this disgusting practice really shows how conservative compassion leads to the disintegration of civilized society.

Even animal control takes in their own stray dogs and cats. Hey! I just came up with another cost-cutting, face-saving strategy for the embattled director of animal services.

Toxins Schmoxins

If you think the current administration cares about what you and your children are breathing and drinking…you should read this.

The current ruling class reminds me of the giant cigarette companies when it comes to science and evidence – there is no proof that cigarettes cause cancer! It’s only a theory! More consequences of our poor education system…

David Bacon Suspension Gives More Bacon to Big Biz

For years many people have been acutely aware of how national policies have made a few people richer and most people more financially insecure. After Katrina the “top priority” of our government of actually CUTTING wages should wake up those who mistakingly believed the current administration cares about ordinary working people. With record numbers of people slipping from the middle class into poverty over the past four years, let’s hope those who thought Republicans cared about the ordinary lives of workers realize that is the farthest thing from the truth.
