The Ninth Amendment

When I hear people scream about the second amendment, particularly in relation to such laws as the new “Stand Your Ground” law in Florida (aka Shoot-First-Ask-Questions-Later law) I sometimes wonder if they think this is the only amendment in the constitution.

It would be interesting to hear more discussion of the ninth:

Amendment IX
The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

Bizarre statements such as this, from Florida’s Needelman, are what confuse me:

“This is a movement by Second Amendment haters who don’t want to believe the Constitution exists,” said Rep. Mitch Needelman, R-Melbourne, a co-sponsor of the bill. From Florida Today

Why is it that if someone does not believe the Second Amendment says anything about using deadly force in a bar fight if you think you are in danger does that mean you don’t want to believe the Constitution exists? Unfortunately, this sort of “dumbed down” version of reality seems to appeal to a lot of voters.
