Keith Olbermann in Rare Form

If you don't watch him, start. I loved his editorial this week on the first 8 months of the Bush administration and how they put counterterrorism on the back burner - one of the things that has annoyed me about media coverage has been the UTTER LACK of honest discussion about how this administration completely dropped the ball when they came in office. He pointed out all the inconsistencies, lies, and obfuscations - we didn't have a strategy to inherit - uh, well what's this document?

It really was the first time the full case was articulated - and it is hard to counter his argument, unless you pull up the old lies and obfuscations. Those are always available if you are a koolaid drinker.

Why I Love Keith Olbermann

Just watch the video of his brilliant commentary on Rumsfeld's frightening speech in which he declared that the majority of Americans are "morally confused". If you have a slow modem (George), you can also read the transcript of his commentary.

Why Do Opcasters Fuel Fringe Psycho Groups?

Scarborough Country had the "reverend" Phelps on to talk about his "God Hates Fags" movement - they picket military funerals, say "thank God for 9/11" all under the delusion that everything bad that happens to Americans is because of gay rights (although that is just the beginning of the Westboro Baptist Church's hate-mongering).

This evil and demented kook is so outside the norm of human behavior, I can't for the life of me understand why these shows dignify his vile activities by putting him on the air. Phelps is just the far end of the spectrum of fundamentalism gone mad. He is the Osama bin Laden of Christianity, giving a bad name to truly devout Christians who actually have brains enough to understand bibical teachings without becoming hate mongerers.

This guy actually has a website which I won't link to because I don't want to give him any link popularity. Wait, I will. With the phrase evil godless demented nutcase so others can link with the same phrase - would love that to be the phrase that brings him up in Google!

If you saw this guy on Scarborough you would recognize he is not a well person - he truly looks like he belongs locked up in a nuthouse for the criminally insane. In fact, the guest host shut off his microphone and called him something nasty - mentioning his red eyes. If I believed in that sort of thing, I'd swear he was a demon. Definitely a false prophet - what fools follow this evil sick man who is so far removed from Christ's teachings he shouldn't dare associate himself with anything Christian?

There is no reason in heaven or on earth to give public voice to this sick creep. Read Wikipedia on this freak - he hates Jews too. Sheesh. What a pathetic loser.

Comparing Bush to Lincoln?

Sean Hannity, the poster child for those who misrepresent news and twist everything to fit a myopic world view, interviewed Don Rumsfeld on his radio show and asked him (in this typically "leading" way) if the things Dean, Kerry and others say about the war is undermining the effort and not constructive criticism. Rumsfeld started his answer by pointing out all the criticism President Lincoln endured. Wow. It never ceases to amaze me just how deluded some people are about where this country is now.

Is Hannity really trying to say that poor planning and bad management by Rumsfeld et al. have nothing to do with how the war is going - all the problems can be blamed on a couple of sentences stated by Democrats. The human ability to delude oneself is truly remarkable - it knows no bounds.

Sean went on to chat about military confrontation wiith Iran. Sheesh. I think he must have a really active imagination if he thinks our military could take another engagement!

It's hard to believe, but this may be the first administration to ruin the country in a mere 8 years. Other administrations have done damage during their reign, but this looks like one that will undermine our economic and military might for decades to come.

Faux News - Ted Baxter - Olbermann Has It Right

Media Matters covers a particularly obscene abuse of the airwaves by Bill O'Reilly - Laura Ingraham also contributed with plenty of misrepresentation of fact. She believes reporters in Iraq are all reporting from their hotel balconies. I guess she hasn't heard about the deaths, injuries, and kidnappings of many of these folks. It's truly distressing to see people whining about the media - claiming they only cover the bad news. If you live in a city where IEDs are exploding without warning on a sickingly regular basis you certainly would be focused on the negative too. Think about it - if you lived in a home with the walls crumbling, no heat, no running water, high crime, fear of walking the streets and a reporter came by, would you say, please cover the story of the pretty sunflower growing in my garden, don't just show all the bad stuff! It really is laughable that someone sitting in a Fox Studio would complain about reporters in Iraq showing the "bad stuff."

Keith Olbermann did a great segment on this - showing the ACTUAL NBC reporters in action, bombs going off, guns shooting in the background. Hardly seems as if they are all sipping martinis on their hotel balconies.

Classic Keith Olbermann

If you haven't discovered MSNBC'S Keith Olbermann, you don't know what you're missing. Today's worst person in the world (a regular feature) were two government employees (Federal Agents) who lied about their identity when scouting an area the President would be visiting. They claimed to be Fox journalists - Keith spells Fox News "Faux News" (god I love that). Later they came back to tell the man they were actually federal agents. Keith remarked, we shouldn't be alarmed. Faux journalists pretend to be journalists every day.

People Pay for This?

Had to have a laugh at this ex-drug addict's membership goodies. You get to listen to someone rant with little attention to fact so you can be blithely unaware of the real world, AND you get a bumper sticker that says, "Still Voting Democrat? You're Stuck on Stupid." You also get a report: "Why the Blue States Don't Get the Red States." Would love to read that one - but I couldn't bear to give them my cc number. Someone could write a rebuttal,"Why the Revenue-Generating, Self-Supporting States Don't Get the Welfare States" or "Why the Blue States Don't Get the Former Slave States"

I think Hillbilly Heroinis more than necessary if you listen to this everyday.

Lou Dobbs Gets It

More greatness from Lou Dobbs, champion of the American people. That might sound grandiose - but really, if you watch his CNN show you will see this is a man who truly cares about the issues that impact working Americans struggling to keep their jobs, pay their bills, and get some semblance of financial security.

Commenting on the waiving of prevailing wages (Gulf states), labor brokers who bring in illegal workers and exploit them (for example, you are lucky you got this job so we aren't going to protect you from toxins because you should be happy you can feed your family for 1 day)

"[This is about]... employers who are just riotously without conscience or concern for the national interests exploiting these people they're hiring."

Lou gets it. With a degree in Economics from Harvard, this is a man with substance behind his arguments. His brand of paleoconservatism makes for compelling and rivetting discussions. He is not a bobble-head who spouts thoughtless ideological memes.

He cares about the impact of the neoconservative, patronage-style politics that have eroded the quality of life in this country for the middle class. He is a true patriot. He puts Americans first. He does not believe in bending over for corporate power at the expense of families. He is disgusted by politicians utterly oblivious to the struggles of the middle class.

Murdered by the Mob

Tucker Carlson had Antoinette Giancana on tonight - who just wrote a book claiming her father, Sam, was behind the Kennedy assassination.

She says in "Italian culture, one hand washes the other hand" - as if all Italians are mafioso. Twit.

This reminds me of the gal who claimed her daddy was the Black Dahlia killer.

I'm going to write a book about how my great great great great great great great great grandfather was the actual assassin of Caesar.

Cha-Ching!

As long as we are discussing fictional accounts of historical events, this is an interesting piece on the Passion film - which I did find disturbingly anti-Semitic in many parts.

The Situation with Tucker Carlson

Some great stuff in an exhanged between Rachel Maddow and Tucker Carlson tonight in a discussion about Cheney's comments today about our past responses to terrorism.

Tucker: (Osama bin Laden is thinking)...we attack the U.S., they don't do anything about it.They're weak.

Rachel: Even on Cheney's own logic here, then how is he justifying what we are doing now. We were attacked on 9/11 and so then we went and attacked an unrelated Muslim country that had nothing to do with this. That's like saying some guy didn't get mugged a second time because he started beating his wife. It has nothing to do with what happened to us on 9/11.

Tucker: Well that's a cruel thing for you to say, because as you know I completely agree with you.

And so on...

Weather Wars

First, I have to admit - I love Lou Dobbs. He is by far the most articulate of the Opcasters (news with a clear opinion/editorial bent). His segments on Exporting America give voice to one of the most profound and disturbing problems in our country today. He is smart, fair, and even if you don't agree with his final analysis on one topic or another, he never lapses into blowhardiness.

Today he did a segment on Weather Wars. I love when Lou does one of these "fun" segments. I say fun because it is out of the mainstream. He generally has a subtle, almost Mona Lisa-mysterious smile on his face, but he treats the story with respect. Hey, this is way out there, but just tell me what your evidence is and I'll give it a listen.

I have a few friends who are diehard conspiracists, so I've heard this weather war stuff for years. Frankly, as a screenwriter, I love it. Cool story. Weapon it would be difficult to fight - forces of nature corralled by man to wreak havoc on enemies - it's a great storyline (of course, Hollywood can't handle these types of stories without devolving the premise into some silliness like "Day After Tomorrow"). I'm a skeptic. I'll play Scully to anyone's Mulder, but this stuff is some of the best dreamed up yet. Maybe it's true...who am I to say ;-)

Anyway, check our WeatherWars.info and let your imagination run free (a decent night's sleep not included)
