Nominated for a Nobel Prize?
Tuesday, 29th November 2005
Today on MSNBC while covering the attempts to get Tookie William’s death sentence commuted they mentioned he has been “nominated for a Nobel Prize.” This really is rather doubtful – first and foremost, nominations are kept secret for 50 years. Only certain people who are invited to nominate can do so, and I suspect most of those people follow the rules of secrecy pretty closely.
The last person to claim this was one of the doctors in the Terry Schiavo case who claimed he had been nominated – but it turned out he was nominated by someone who wasn’t authorized to nominate anyone.
